How to get Golden Visa in Spain

The Spain Golden Visa is a residency by investment program that allows non-EU citizens to obtain Spanish residency by making qualifying investments in Spain. The program was launched in 2013 as a way to attract foreign investment to the country, and it offers several benefits for investors and their families.

Investors and their immediate family members (spouse, children under 18, and dependent children over 18) can obtain residency in Spain, which allows for living, working, and studying in the country. The Golden Visa grants residency within the Schengen Area, meaning holders can travel freely across 26 European countries without additional visas.

After five years of continuous residency, investors can apply for permanent residency in Spain. After ten years, they can apply for Spanish citizenship, provided they meet language and residency requirements. One of the key features of the Golden Visa is that investors are not required to live in Spain for an extended period. You only need to spend a minimum of seven days per year in Spain during the first two years and 14 days per year in the subsequent years.

To qualify for the Spain Golden Visa, investors must meet certain investment criteria.

A minimum investment of €500,000 in Spanish real estate can be a single property, multiple properties and can be located within a new development located in Spain. The investment can be in residential, commercial, or mixed-use properties.

Invest in a Spanish business or company, creating jobs or contributing to the economy. This option generally requires more detailed business plans and documentation. Make a €1 million deposit in a Spanish bank. Alternatively, investors can choose to invest €1 million in Spanish shares or bonds. Investment in a Spanish research project or technological development with a focus on innovation.

The investor applies for the Golden Visa through Spain’s immigration office. This process can take around 2–3 months. Once approved, the investor receives a two-year residency permit that can be renewed as long as the investment is maintained. After five years of residence, permanent residency can be applied for. Citizenship can be applied for after ten years of residence, provided language and integration requirements are met.

The investor's spouse, children under 18, and dependent children may also obtain residency under the same investment, which is a key benefit of the program.

Spain Golden Visa

The visa is renewable every two years, provided the investor maintains the investment, and there is no minimum stay requirement (but investors must be in Spain for at least seven days in the first two years and 14 days thereafter).

Investors must have No criminal record in Spain or the country of origin, and have sufficient financial means to support themselves.

The Golden Visa provides significant flexibility and opportunities for those looking to live or invest in Spain while maintaining the ability to travel freely within the EU.
